Default Brave New World.....

To the point: We Need a Player Police Force in this game!

A Visable Force that can be a deterrant to harrasing, vulger language, etc.

A Undercover/covert Force that watches in the shadows.

As much as I am personally against such actions as a covert force in the Real World...I have come to the conclusion that this is not a Real World.

A Visable Police Force in towns that has the power to suspend accounts for a temporary amount of time in which their account and actions can be reviewed.

A Undercover/Covert Police Force that can Suspend and Ban accounts for a unlimited amount of time.

The visable force ("Beat Cops") have to answer to the undercover cops.

I am sick and tired of warping into a town or a city and seeing this childish behaviour over and over again. Racist remarks, sexual remarks, selling in the local chat, on and on. When you ask them to stop it they just keep the imature behaviour going.

I for one would be honored to help in this way. I would be fair...but firm. Arena-Net needs to get off the fence and get something done about this. I see no other solution to this growing problem other then to have the power to take care of it right then and right now.

They need a Sherriff to Clean up this Town......

That would be nice.

But how many would they need? There tend to be alot of districts to look over at times. I've seen 42 for old ascalon once.

I can see then just poping from district to district, city to city. I think it would work, but that might be alot of person power.

I can see and average of 2-3 people per City/Town as Beat Cops. They would stay within the districts of that town. The undercover cops would be an unknown. They would warp in and out of towns as the Beat Cops call for thier help. Even the beat cops will not know thier numbers or where they are. This will keep the beat cops in line as well.

Since Guild Wars likes to profess they are a new type of on-line game. It is time for them to take a risk and put there money where thier mouth is. This is a trend that in my opinion would take off like wild fire. Other on-line games would look seriously at this approch. The gaming community policing themselves. No need for REAL government intervention. Once these little childish people realize that they can not get away with it anymore...these type of problems would drop like 90%. there will still be a few that will keep it up...but they will be cornered and weeded out.

Only problem with picking players to be police is that some will most likely get people they don't really like suspened for something not even that bad, or worse just make something up. They also might be a little kinder to their friends/guild mates. A dev police force would be a little better, but not a player one.

That is the "Key". To police the police. The Undercover cops would be the Devs.

I realize this. However, something must be done...and done NOW! With Undercover Cops as the Devs then that would reduce most of the "Jack Boot" mentality of the Beat Cops. Nothing is perfect though. Companies that want to make money at gaming have to start looking for solutions to these type of problems before the Local,State, and Federal law enforcement takes control.

local, state federal law enoforcement??? dude....... For one thing compared to all other online mulitplayer games iv played this game does not have that much of a prob. For another the goverment would never get involved if a-net doesnt want it to cause who's going to report it?? Thirdly this is never gona happen.

Never say Never.... I "Never" thought allot of things would "never" happen in my 50 years...boy was I surprised. I have learned to be more open minded. However in this day and age with the people in power in this country now, things are changing...mainly for the worst. History will tell all.....

EDIT: By the way God's Will, with all due respect, what are you offering? I am at least offering a solution. You are just being negitive. You have some ideas, then good let's hear some.

Has anyone watched an anime called .hack//SIGN? The anime is focused around an MMORPG called "The World" run by a company called CCNet. They have a similar organisation in that called "The Crimson Knights" who are basically like a player-run police force . It'd be interesting if a guild formed up with the premise of cleaning up Tyria from wrong-doing . Although will A.Net support this new vigilante group or not? Time will tell...

oh and I think the devs got more than enough to worry about. Policing the servers shouldnt be there responsibility .

dood

are you forgetting about griefers?
Do you really want to be banned because some "Beat cop" decided that he didn't like what you are doing. Go live in the real world for a bit.

This is a game. Keep it that way.

You can safely assume devs and trusted beta players patrol the game, looking into reports and reporting abuse themselves.
There's may also be gamemasters (GM's) monitoring activity on-screen, although probably not many and probably only part of the time.
There may also be automated surveillance systems, bringing certain activities (suspected botting behavior, repeated use of particular words or combinations of words...) to the attention of the GM's as they happen, for them to look in on.
There is possibly, but not likely, even actual law enforcement agents on patrol, this will only be the case if there is suspicion federal crime is being planned in-game (they will probably mainly be looking for paedophiles).

Player policing can work, if they are given the ability to impose sanctions, but is pretty much guaranteed to lead to significant corruption, favoritism, and abuse. It'd be pretty much frontier law, and may cause more and more serious problems than it fixes.

I actually quite like the idea of "uniformed police", although the personnel cost means it'd not be possible to have actual humans patrolling the mean streets of Ascalon. One could make it so that one could (try) to call the attention of GM's through talking to Ascalon guards, but I fear it would just lead to inundating the GM's with tons of false or trivial reports.

Why don't you just ignore the trolls or switch districts to avoid them? They can't really do very much to you, since everything is instanced.

The place to which the OP want's to go seems ok with me.
I don't need spammers, penis- /swastikadrawers, foul language-users and people alike around me. The world (virtual or not) can be complicated enough without people like that.
The path to that place on the other hand might best not be walked via the police.

Unfortunately I have no other solution to offer, but to ignore people who do those things.
Don't let them on your team, or into your guild. And if they're already on: Remove them.

Anyone can volunteer to try to clean up the place themselves- just be very dedicated to reporting the violations you do see.

i think Numas right, in that theres someone watching. has anyone ever been um, followed about by the guards?
i was in pre, with my other char and i sat down near the bottom of the stairs to be able to look at what was being asked and sort out some Q&A (i do that sometimes in Pre, to take a breather from killing and dying in Post, and help out the nwebies with some of the simple questions lol)
so there was one of the guards that just stood there. he didnt move, it was like he was waiting for me to get up or something...
(that, and the fact some warrior dud came up and clicked him and his response, though random was way funny....'I may be unbeleavably handsom, but that dosent mean you can touch me whenever you want.' 0.o
maybe the devs have a monitoring system in the towns with guards?

I know...that pretty much was the point of the tittle.

I for one am not of fan of "Big Brother" and all that jazz. Nor am I ever a fan of Police that are military Jack Boots.(I have recent tale of a real life Jack Boot Cop that harrased me. He didn't even think of the fact that I knew his Precinct Captain for 20 years. Nor did I inform him at that time. PM me if ya want to know that story ) That is my greatest concern over having players as a Police Force. That is where thier "power" would have to be limited. I at first suggested that they only suspend until the accused's account and actions are reviewed by Devs. Maybe they should not have any ability outside of the fact of just being there reporting what is going on. Remember this is a work in progress from my end. I am not saying that I have the whole problem licked or that only MY ideas are absolute. I firmly believe that Ideas Breed Ideas.

This relatively a new technology. On-line gaming. (Yes I know it has been around for years) But to the rest of the world it is new. In that light I believe WE(Gamers/Gaming Companies) should work together to police/monitor the activities of the select few that make our lives miserable. All it takes is ONE group of people to get on the band wagon and go to Congress and make laws curtailing what freedoms we have now in gaming. There are allot of people out there in this country (USA) that are Self-Rightous and want YOU to conform to what THIER ideals are. Remember Columbine High School? What was one of the first reports of that horrible event? That these children played video games.

This is all that I am trying to achieve is some form of reasonable control within the parameters of this and future games of this sort.
